Cows producing ‘Human’ milk ??

We already know that Chinese people are capable of producing almost anything, but now Chinese Researchers reported that they’ve produced human-like milk from genetically modified dairy cows.

Ning Li says «Our study describes transgenic cattle whose milk offers similar nutritional benefits as human milk» and «The modified bonnie milk is a possible substitute for human milk».

The researchers say that this new milk tastes a little stronger than normal cow milk and they hope it can be commercialized within 3 years or less.

A real important concern is that mothers may substitute their breast feeding with is product and might put in danger the babies well being, because natural human breast milk is the most important source of vitamins, minerals and immunologic defenses for infants. In other hand, this can be a help to mothers that have trouble breast feeding.

This Scientist, Ning Li, has created cows that can produce important substances that are present in human breast milk, like lysozyme (protein with a role against bacterial infections) and lactoferin (role in immune cells) and are vital for a good baby growth and health.

One British biologist said to the Daily Telegraph that «Genetically modified food, if done correctly, can provide benefit for consumers in terms of producing better products».

 

Ou concern is: Will they always think about people’s wellbeing above all? Or will they start to think (as most producers) about how to make more money and stop concerning so much about human or animal health?

Do the cows suffer with this modification? Are they healthy or suffer some problems and die early?
