It’s common knowledge that ‘junk food’ can make people obese, with special concern on younger ones. Besides that, new studies demonstrate that this kind of food (processed, greasy and sugary) may have a negative impact on children’s brain.
This studies, from the United Kingdom and Canada, use questionnaires that ask the kind and quantity of food given to children as well as questions that evaluate their IQ. The environment around this young people, I mean, the interaction with parents during the meal (for example) also influences IQ.
“A possible explanation for this is that the brain grows at its fastest rate during the first three years of life. Studies have shown that head growth during this time is associated with cognitive outcome, and it is possible that good nutrition during this early period may encourage optimal brain growth,” the researchers wrote.
These are not the first studies applied in this area, but the truth is, the relation between junk food and IQ is getting ‘stronger’.
Many cientists say that “Diet can affects us from ‘head to toe'”, and now we can see that it an enormous Truth.
This is one more big eye-opener, specially to parents, that everything they do can have a big influence in their children (maybe a really bad one, as this).
